About CoBE
College of Business and Economics (CoBE) has offered different business programs with a strong tradition of quality teaching, research, and community service since 2006/7 (1999 E.C). Since the setting up of the university, CoBE is producing competent students in different disciplines. The College was established as a one of seven colleges in 2006/7 and has become one of the leading colleges in Wollega University.
Currently, the College has eleven undergraduate programs, nine Masters and two PhD programs clustered under six departments. The undergraduate programs are Accounting and Finance, Banking and Finance, Cooperative Accounting and Auditing, Cooperating Business Management, Economics, Management, Logistics and Supplies Management, Marketing Management, Hotel and Tourism Management, Administrative Service Management and Technology System and Public Administration and Development Management. The college has developed modularized curriculum in all fields to enhance the teaching learning process, assessment and evaluation systems. Hence, it has been able to produce capable graduates in the aforementioned fields at undergraduate level of study. In this academic year, 2017/18, the College is teaching a total of more than 4000 in undergraduate regular, evening, and weekend, summer and distance programs.
Since 2010 we have commenced post graduate programs in various fields to meet the growing demand for qualified and competent man power at advanced levels in the fields of business and economics. Currently, we are running nine masters and two PhD programs. These are; Masters Degree in Human Resource Management, Masters of Accounting and Finance, Masters of Agricultural Economics, Masters of Banking and Finance, Masters of Business Administration, Masters of Development Economics, Masters of Marketing Management, Masters of Public Administration, and Maters of Logistics and Supply Chain Management. In addition, the PhD program in Development Economics was started in 2015/16; and this year, 2017/18, the college will start PhD in Management. Currently, the total number of students enrolled in the postgraduate program is 308 (83 in regular and 225 in Weekend and evening).
The college is undertaking the various teaching, research and community service activities with the total of 96 academic staffs and 24 administrative staffs. We have well trained academic staff on duty with 5 of them trained in PhD and 54 in Masters Degree and the rest 37 are first degree holders. There are also 15 academic staff on study leave for PhD and 9 for Masters Degree.
