Journalism and Communication has the mission of producing journalists who are professionally competent, intellectually rigorous, ethically respect fundamental human rights, tolerant and respect diversities in society.

Generally the program admits students that have been recruited at a national level through the ministry of education and assigned to Wollega University. Students who have successfully completed the courses offered in preparatory school are admitted to the program. Thus students of any high school background with reasonable English language mastery can join the program. Moreover, interested applicants who had diploma in any field from a recognized institution can be admitted as advance standing students
