Message from the Director of Library and Documentation Service, Wollega University

Welcome to the Library and Documentation Service of Wollega University (WU)—a dynamic and evolving academic support hub at the heart of our institution’s mission to empower learning, teaching, and research.

At WU, we are committed to providing inclusive, uninterrupted, and comprehensive library services that meet the diverse needs of our university community. With a clear mission to foster an information-based society, our library system plays a central role in supporting the university’s academic excellence and innovation. Our services are designed to complement and enhance Wollega University's vision by ensuring equitable access to both print and digital resources across all campuses and disciplines.

Our extensive library network includes:

  • The Main Library, serving as the flagship facility with a wide array of resources and services on social science, natural science, engineering & technology, veterinary, health and many more).
  • Specialized branch libraries: the Faculty of Business and Economics (FBE) Library, Law Library, Health Sciences Library, and Postgraduate (PG) Library.
  • Gimbi campus library
  • Shambu campus library
  • The Digital Library and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Library, enabling access to a growing repository of electronic resources.
  • The Referral Hospital Library, which supports clinical education and health research.
  • Two mini-libraries located near female dormitories, ensuring accessibility and safety for female students.

Together, these facilities operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week—reflecting our dedication to providing seamless access to knowledge without boundaries.

We take pride in our collaborative approach, actively engaging in partnerships through the Consortium of Ethiopian Academic and Research Libraries (CEARL). This collaboration enables us to offer our users access to a wide range of international scholarly journals and databases through subscription-based services. To uphold academic integrity, the library has subscribed to Turnitin, a leading plagiarism detection software, which is readily available to our students, faculty, and researchers.

We are also committed to the advancement of open access and academic visibility. In this spirit, we continue to develop and enhance our Institutional Repository, a digital platform aimed at archiving and showcasing all theses and dissertations produced within the university.

In our commitment to expanding access to digital learning, the Library and Documentation Service also provides localized digital services through a specially configured machine with dedicated WiFi capabilities. This innovative system enables students located within 1.5 km radius of the university to conveniently access electronic resources anywhere within that range—even off-campus. This service has been especially impactful in extending digital access to students in residential areas surrounding the university, minimizing barriers to information.

Our service is powered by a team of over 250 dedicated staff members; their efforts ensure that we remain responsive to the ever-changing information landscape and the evolving needs of our users.

With our own library website as a central access point for resources, updates, and support, we strive to be a model academic library system in the region—supporting research, learning, and community engagement.

Thank you for visiting our page. We invite you to explore our services and connect with us as we continue our journey toward excellence in knowledge dissemination and academic support.
