About the Department (IT)

The Information Technology was established a program under the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology was established at College University in 1999 E.C. In 2002 E.C., the Computer Science and Information Technology programs were separated into distinct departments. Since then, the Department of Information Technology has been operating independently.

The Information Technology program began at the undergraduate (BSc) level and has since produced many skilled professionals. Our graduates are highly demanded in teaching, research, industry, and entrepreneurship.

The number of students enrolling in our department continues to grow significantly, revealing the strong interest in the field.

Program Overview

The BSc in IT is a four-year (8-semester) program taught in English. Students begin with foundations in computing, mathematics, and communication skills before progressing into advanced IT fields.

Key areas of study include:

·         Programming & Software Development – from C++ and Java to mobile and web applications.

·         Database Systems – design, manage, and secure data effectively.

·         Networking & Cybersecurity – build and protect modern computer networks.

·         Web & Mobile Technologies – create solutions for Ethiopia’s and the world’s digital economy.

·         Artificial Intelligence & Emerging Tech – explore intelligent systems and future-ready technologies.

·         Project & System Management – learn how to plan, implement, and evaluate IT projects.

Hands-on learning is central. Students spend significant time in modern computer labs, complete industry-relevant projects, and finish with a capstone project or internship that showcases their skills.
