About the Department

Wallaga University Gimbi Campus Geology department under Faculty of Natural and Environmental Science. Gimbi Campus has several faculties including Natural & Environmental Sciences. The program is designed to promote applied research in areas such as resource exploration, hydrogeology, environmental geology, and geo-hazard assessment.

The Geology Department plays a vital role in advancing knowledge about the Earth’s structure, composition, and dynamic processes. Through its well-designed academic programs, it equips students with both theoretical understanding and practical field experience in areas such as Mineral Exploration, Environmental Geology, Geological Mapping Geotechnical Studies, and Hydrogeology.

The Geology Program, established in 2017, is designed to provide students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in earth sciences. The program focuses on areas such as mineral and energy resource exploration, hydrogeology, environmental geology, and geo-hazard assessment.

Candidates seeking admission to the Geology Program are required to meet the university’s general entrance requirements for science disciplines. Admission is open to students who have successfully completed preparatory education in the Natural Science stream or hold equivalent qualifications recognized by the Ministry of Education.

The program offers a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Geology, with a strong emphasis on fieldwork, laboratory training, and applied research that address real-world geological challenges and support sustainable development
