The Geology Department at Wallaga University, Gimbi Campus, has identified and submitted several relevant and practical research projects that align with local geological conditions, community needs, and the University’s applied science mission. As a future plan, the department aims to strengthen and expand these initiatives into long-term, multidisciplinary programs that contribute to regional development and scientific advancement. In collaboration with the Geological Survey of Ethiopia (GSE), the National Disaster Risk Management Commission (NDRMC), and the Ministry of Water and Energy, it seeks to establish a sustainable framework for data collection, analysis, and dissemination that supports both academic research and community based problem solving.
Future activities will focus on integrating student led fieldwork and laboratory research with national development priorities such as mineral resource exploration, landslide mitigation, and groundwater development. The department also plans to develop partnerships with international universities and research organizations to attract funding, access advanced technologies, and promote joint supervision of postgraduate research. Through these efforts, the Geology Department aspires to become a center of excellence in Applied Geosciences, providing practical solutions to geological and environmental challenges in Gimbi and its surroundings while fostering hands on education and sustainable regional development.
