The department of Surgical and Operating theatre Nursing at Wollega University, Institute of Health Sciences’ school of Nursing and Midwifery is committed to educating highly competent surgical, and Operating theatre Nurses. Surgical Nurse is a critical specialty focused on the care of patients with surgical needs across diverse clinical and service settings. As foundational members of the surgical team, these nurses are essential to positive patient outcome, community health, and prosperity of nations.
Our programs are designed to significantly enhance the healthcare delivery system by promoting evidence based-practice and advanced technologies, engaging in Research, leadership and community based interventions, thereby improving the overall quality of health services in our country.
The necessity for this specialised training is underscored by the recent data, which utilised recognised, significant shortage in trained surgical nursing staff. This is particularly critical agreed that a recent study recorded 69,717 major and minor surgeries in Ethiopia within a 90-day period, with major procedure accounting for 58% of the total. The operating room environment presents unique challenges that can impede optimal patient care. To address these challenges, improve the quality of surgical care, and build a robust surgical workforce, we have established degree program in surgical nursing, and Operating Theatre Nursing.
Our goal is to equip and produce graduates with the expertise needed to overcome existing gaps and lead advancements in surgical care throughout our country as a category of University of Applied Sciences.
