Wallaga University Gimbi Campus Advances Research and Community Engagement Initiatives to Foster Institutional Self-Reliance

Wallaga University’s Gimbi Campus is implementing a range of research and community engagement initiatives designed to strengthen institutional income generation and progressively advance the University toward financial self-reliance. Dr. Solomon Abebe, Director of Research and Community Engagement at Gimbi Campus, noted that these initiatives are intended to enhance institutional productivity, deepen engagement with surrounding communities, and generate sustainable revenue through research-based development activities.
According to the Director, notable progress has been registered at the Campus in several areas, including poultry production, coffee seedling propagation, tomato production, orphan crops, vegetables and fruits, pineapple cultivation, and spice development. These undertakings form part of the University’s broader strategy to expand agricultural research, promote the application of practical knowledge, and establish productive ventures that contribute to institutional self-reliance.
The Director further indicated that the Gimbi Campus is working to introduce modern beekeeping technologies and make their benefits accessible to farmers and the wider community. Through strengthened coordination and knowledge-sharing mechanisms, the Campus aims to ensure that farmers are well informed of, and able to benefit from, the advantages of modern beehives.
The University also recognizes the contribution and continued support of its President, Dr. Tesfaye Lemma, toward strengthening educational resources and advancing community engagement initiatives.
These efforts reflect the Gimbi Campus’s commitment to linking research with practical community needs, expanding productive activities, improving educational services, and building the institutional capacity required for Wallaga University to become increasingly self-reliant.
