Wollega University has graduated 920 students who have been studying in various fields and departments. This graduation, held for the 21st time, included students who completed their studies across different academic programs, modalities, and advanced levels, including Postgraduate (MA/MSc) and Doctoral (#PhD) degrees. Accordingly, 674 students graduated with an undergraduate degree (Male=509, Female=165), 218 students with a master's degree (Male=196, Female=22), 8 students with a doctorate (#PhD) degree (Male=8, Female=0), and 20 students graduated with a medical specialty (Male=19, Female=1) from the Institute of Health Sciences.
Dr. Malka Hiika, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, stated that the university is currently fulfilling its role through expansion in various areas, producing students from different departments who can contribute to the country's social, economic, and technological development. He also thanked everyone who worked hard for the students' success.
Out of today's graduates, 217 graduated from the Gimbi Campus, while 58 graduated from the Shambu Campus. He further noted that the university has graduated over 90,000 students since its establishment.
In his speech at the ceremony, the President of Wollega University, Dr. Tesfaye Lemma, extended his congratulations to the students and their families, saying: "Congratulations! As you celebrate seeing the
fruits of your long-term hard work today, do not forget those who stood behind you and encouraged you." He also passed a message to the students, stating: "Education is a lifelong journey. Receiving an undergraduate degree is not the end of life but rather a beginning. Therefore, you must continue your education, improve yourselves in your professional paths, and keep transforming yourselves by acquiring technological and entrepreneurial skills."
He added: "The education you received must practically make you active, competent, and modern citizens who bring change to the country. To achieve this, you can live a meaningful life by always being dedicated, maintaining a positive outlook, and being part of the solution to our political, economic, environmental, and national problems. This is the true definition of education and learning!"
Finally, students who achieved top scores from various colleges were awarded medals and trophies, and the ceremony concluded colorfully.
