Wollega University Receives 23,524 Donated Books to Strengthen Educational Access in Western Ethiopia

 Wollega University has received a donation of 23,524 books from Bread and Water for Africa and Books for Africa to support teaching and learning in schools across East Wollega, West Wollega, and Horro Guduru Wollega Zones.The books were officially received by the University’s management team, led by Dr. Diriba Diba, Vice President for Research and Community Engagement, who represented the University President during the handover ceremony. He expressed the University’s appreciation to the partner organizations for their continued commitment to expanding educational opportunities for children and young people.The donated collection includes a wide range of books covering different subjects and educational levels, benefiting students from kindergarten through Grade 12. The initiative aims to improve access to quality learning materials, particularly in communities where educational resources and internet connectivity remain limited. The books are expected to strengthen school libraries, promote reading culture, and enhance learning outcomes for thousands of students throughout western Ethiopia.Working closely with the Education Offices of East Wollega, West Wollega, and Horro Guduru Wollega Zones, Wollega University has identified beneficiary schools for the distribution of the books. Approximately 20–25 primary and secondary schools across the three zones will receive the donation, including the University’s three Model Schools and the Wollega University Special Boarding School.The initiative reflects Wollega University’s continued commitment to educational development, community engagement, and strategic partnerships that expand access to knowledge and improve the quality of education.
