The System Administrator is responsible for the reliable operation, maintenance, and security of the university's different systems, including servers, operating systems, applications, and related infrastructure. This role ensures high levels of system availability, performance, and security, supporting the university's academic, research, and administrative functions. The System Administrator will also participate in system planning, implementation, troubleshooting, and user support activities.
Key Responsibilities:System Installation and Configuration: o Install, configure, and maintain server hardware and operating systems (e.g., Windows Server, Linux). o Install, configure, and manage essential system software and applications. o Set up and manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights. System Maintenance and Monitoring: o Monitor system performance, resource utilization, and overall health. o Perform regular system maintenance tasks, including patching, updates, and backups. o Implement and maintain system monitoring tools and respond to alerts. o Ensure the integrity and security of system data. System Security: o Implement and enforce security policies and procedures at the system level. o Perform security audits and vulnerability assessments at the system level. o Implement and manage user authentication and authorization mechanisms. Troubleshooting and Support: o Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and operating system issues. o Provide technical support to end-users for system-related problems. o Document system problems, resolutions, and procedures. o Escalate complex issues to appropriate teams or vendors. |
Automation and Scripting:o Develop and utilize scripts (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python) to automate routine system administration tasks. o Implement automation tools to improve efficiency and reduce manual errors. Documentation: o Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps. o Develop knowledge base articles for common system issues. Planning and Development: o Participate in the planning and design of system upgrades and expansions. o Research and evaluate new system technologies and solutions. o Assist in capacity planning for system infrastructure. Email administration: o Setting up and managing email servers. o Creating and managing user accounts and mailboxes o Implementing and maintaining email security measures o Troubleshooting email issues o Performing backups and recovery of email data Backup and Recovery: o Develop and implement system backup and recovery procedures. o Regularly test backup and recovery processes to ensure data availability. o Manage backup infrastructure and media. |
