Network Administrator

The Network Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of the university's local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and wireless network infrastructure. This role ensures the stable and reliable operation of the network infrastructure, providing optimal performance and security for all users and services. The Network Administrator will also participate in network planning, implementation of security measures, and troubleshooting network issues.

Key Responsibilities:

 Network Infrastructure Management: 

  • Install, configure, and maintain network hardware and
  • Monitor network performance and availability, identifying and resolving bottlenecks and issues proactively.
  • Manage and maintain VLANs, subnetting schemes, and routing
  • Ensure proper cabling and physical connectivity of network
  • Maintain up-to-date network diagrams and

        Network Security:

     o    Implement and enforce network security policies and procedures.

     o    Monitor network traffic for security threats and anomalies.

     o    Participate in security audits and vulnerability assessments.

      Wireless Network Management:

     o    Plan, deploy, and manage the university's wireless network infrastructure.

     o    Configure and troubleshoot wireless access points and controllers.

     o    Ensure optimal wireless coverage and performance across campus.

     o    Implement and manage wireless security protocols.

        WAN and VPN service management

     o    Performance Monitoring and Optimization

     o    Diagnosing and resolving WAN connectivity issues and working with ISP

     o    Forecasting future bandwidth needs based on university growth and application requirements.

        Network Monitoring and Troubleshooting:

     o    Utilize network monitoring tools to track performance, identify issues, and generate reports.

     o    Diagnose and resolve network hardware and software failures.

     o    Provide timely and effective technical support to end- users regarding network connectivity issues.

     o    Document network problems, resolutions, and procedures.

       Network Planning and Development:

     o    Participate in the planning and design of network upgrades and expansions.

     o    Research and evaluate new networking technologies and solutions.

     o    Assist in capacity planning for network infrastructure.

        User and Access Management:

     o    Manage network user accounts and access permissions.

     o    Configure and maintain authentication systems.

        Documentation and Reporting:

     o    Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of network configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.

     o    Generate regular reports on network performance and availability
