About the Department

The Department of Computer Science and Information Technology was established at Wollega University in 1999 E.C. In 2002 E.C., the Computer Science and Information Technology programs were separated into distinct departments. Since then, the Department of Computer Science has been operating independently.

The Computer Science program began at the undergraduate (BSc) level and has since produced many skilled professionals. Our graduates are highly demanded in teaching, research, industry, and entrepreneurship, particularly in today’s technology-driven era. The number of students enrolling in our department continues to grow significantly, reflecting the strong interest in the field.

In 2007 E.C., the MSc program in Computer Science was launched, creating valuable opportunities for both the community and university staff. Scholars from various universities have joined and benefited from the program to this day.

Our department focuses on cutting-edge areas of technology such as Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, Time Series Analysis, Deep Learning, and more. We also work closely with industry partners to address real-world problems through innovative solutions.
