About the department (HWE)

The department of Hydraulic and Water resources engineering was established in 2010 at Wollega University. This program is aimed at training manpower required for the realization of the country’s vast hydropower and water resources potential. Well-qualified Hydraulic Engineers will be produced through this program who can actively be engaged in the planning; design; development and management of water resources projects in general.

Hydraulic and Water resources engineering department teaching launched with limited number of staffs and educational resources. However, now days, it is relatively a full-dedicated staffs in Wollega University in terms of professional. By now, the graduates will have the capacity to innovate, transfer technology & entrepreneurship. It has a total of 32 academic staff (one PhD, one Assc.Prof holder, 5PhD candidates, 22 MSc holders, and 3BSc). Their academic ranks are: one associate professor, 6 assistant professors, 22 lecturers and 3 assistant lecturers.

In the year 2016, the program expanded its program and launched a master’s program in Hydraulic Engineering in regular modalities. Many Professionals and researchers have been graduated from the master program of the department, and are playing their roles in building the nation. The programs of the department aim to innovate transfer technology& entrepreneurship both nationally and internationally. Furthermore, the B.Sc. degree in Hydraulic and Water Resources Engineering as the first academic degree may also be the starting point for further academic qualification.

Lastly, as Ministry of education, University is categorized under Universities of Applied Sciences, the department of Hydraulic and Water Resources Engineering has reviewed its curriculum to align with the plan of applied sciences, and to attention on practical activities.
