The Biology Department at Wollega University is dedicated to producing highly skilled and knowledgeable graduates who can contribute significantly to the nation’s development, particularly in the fields of agriculture, health, industries, and research. As Ethiopia continues to grow in these sectors, the role of biologists becomes increasingly essential, and the department is committed to preparing students to meet these emerging challenges.
The core objective of the Biology Department is to provide quality education that produces graduates who are well-equipped to address the biological and environmental challenges facing the country. The department’s educational programs aim to transform lives and reduce poverty through the application of biological sciences, supporting sustainable development in Ethiopia.
To address national and dynamic needs and requirements, the department crafted its curriculum and has specialized postgraduate programs. Postgraduate courses were crafted to address the pressing needs of food security, public health, and environmental sustainability in Ethiopia. The department has already present a PhD curriculum in Entomology (Insect Science) which has been approved and yet to admit students. The department also endorsed PhD in Wildlife Conservation and Management, and in Biomedical Sciences and waiting for approval.
