The Department of Environmental Science is dedicated to training students to become environmental stewards who understand the intricacies of ecological systems and the impacts of human activity on the environment. Initially, the department of environmental science was launched as a program under the faculty of earth and environmental sciences in 2009 and began its operations by enrolling 86 students. In 2015, the department of Environmental Science became an independent department, reflecting the growing importance of environmental education and research innovation in the field under the college of natural and computational sciences. The same year, the department launched its postgraduate programs to offer master's degree in different specialties. The department offers a comprehensive academic portfolio, including an undergraduate program and four specialized master’s programs in environmental science, environmental chemistry, environmental resource management, and energy and climate change in regular, weekend, distance, and summer modalities. The department is committed to addressing local, regional and global environmental and socio-economic challenges through high-quality education, research innovation, and practical engagement. The department also strives to develop well-rounded professionals who are equipped to contribute to sustainable solutions in diverse environmental fields. By fostering a dynamic learning environment, the department plays a vital role in shaping future leaders dedicated to environmental sustainability and stewardship.
